Nairobi&#8217;s own government has relaunched its Kazi Majuu initiative, recruiting thousands of construction and transport workers for Gulf placements in a single drive.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kenya-Gulf corridor is no longer emerging. It has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From domestic work to the trades<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East African migration to the Gulf was once dominated by domestic work. That profile is diversifying fast. Kenyan workers now arrive for construction, security, hospitality, logistics and driving roles &#8211; the Tuko-reported recruitment of over 4,000 &#8220;mjengo&#8221; (construction) and &#8220;makanga&#8221; (transport) workers in one government-backed drive captures the shift. Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia are on the same trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several forces drive it. Gulf employers value East African workers&#8217; English proficiency and service orientation. East African governments see structured overseas employment as a remittance and skills strategy. And bilateral labour agreements &#8211; like the Kenya-Saudi deal &#8211; are replacing informal channels with government-to-government frameworks that protect workers on both ends.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Welfare is the headline<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new generation of East African labour agreements puts worker welfare at the centre: pre-departure training, verified contracts, embassy support and grievance channels. Kenya&#8217;s deal with Saudi Arabia explicitly targets the welfare of its nationals &#8211; a recognition that the sustainability of the corridor depends on workers arriving informed and protected.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/huntr.app\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/93-day-11-body.png\"alt=\"Illustration of Kenyan workers departing for Gulf jobs\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What it means for the Gulf labour market<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Gulf employers, East Africa expands the sourcing map at exactly the moment South Asian corridors are at full stretch. Diversified sourcing is risk management: employers who build East African pipelines now will not be hostage to any single market&#8217;s supply constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For workers across Kenya, Uganda and beyond, the corridor offers what Gulf migration has always offered at its best: wages several times home-market levels, skills that transfer, and remittances that build families and businesses. The infrastructure of protection is finally catching up with the scale of the opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 350,000 Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia today are the foundation.
